Employee resources Working at Flinders Performance reviews

Performance review and development (PRD) – All staff

All professional and academic staff (excluding casuals) are required to undertake regular performance reviews in accordance with the framework prescribed in clause 27 of the Flinders University Enterprise Agreement.  

The following tools and information have been developed to assist the supervisor and the staff member to effectively establish performance goals, identify any career development goals, and to provide the information required to be able to easily navigate how to capture this process in Work Day.

Academic staff performance reviews**

The PRD Framework for Academic Staff provides the basis for the supervisor and Academic to work together in assessing and developing performance objectives including:

  • assist staff to develop academically and professionally and clarify performance expectations;
  • assist the supervisor and academic to jointly plan the work required to achieve desired goals; and
  • assist supervisors in monitoring and assessing an academic staff member’s performance and development goals.

Professional staff performance reviews

The PRD Framework for Professional Staff provides the basis for a supervisor/manager and staff member to work together in assessing and developing a staff member’s performance to assist the achievement of individual, work area and/or organisational goals, through:

  • formal review of performance, normally annually, and
  • regular feedback throughout the year.

Casual staff

While casual staff do not participate in the same review process, they are expected to perform to a satisfactory standard while carrying out their responsibilities including:

Professional staff:

  • meeting attendance requirements
  • displaying appropriate skills and initiative

Academic staff

  • teaching in accordance with the curriculum for the topic for which they are engaged
  • attending promptly to administrative and assessment requirements of the topic
  • complying with the area's expectations with regard to student consultation
  • contributing appropriately to the work team
