Learning and teaching Academic promotion - dates, policies and procedures

Flinders University academic promotion policy supports the promotion of academic staff, recognising and rewarding sustained excellence across academic activity and supporting the University in meeting the strategic priorities of the 2025 Agenda.

Relevant dates, policies and procedures related to academic progression can be found on this page.

The application process for academic promotion for 2023 will be invited from Tuesday 11 April 2023. 

Academic Promotions Dates 2023

Please find below the agreed timetable for the 2023 Academic Promotions round.

The call

The call for promotions will be released on Tuesday 11 April 2023. At this time access to the website and all relevant promotion material, including details of filling out the application through Service One will be accessible here. Please monitor this page for any updates.

Application submission dates

For Promotions to Level B or C

  • Application to Supervisor closing date Friday 21 July 2023 (please note if your supervisor is the Dean P&R the application should be submitted to the Dean P&R at this date and not the later date below)
  • Application to Dean P&R closing date Friday 28 July 2023
  • Application to People and Culture Friday 11 August 2023

For Promotions to Level D or E

  • Application to Supervisor closing date Friday 4 August 2023 (please note if your supervisor is the Dean P&R the application should be submitted to the Dean P&R at this date)
  • Application to VPED Closing date Friday 11 August 2023
  • Application to People and Culture Friday 18 August 2023

Committee dates

The Committees will meet w/c 25 September 2023 (Level B-C), and w/c 16 October 2023 (Level D-E).

Decision dates

Following the Committee Meetings decisions will be made and promotion letters will be issued within a 2 week period following the completion of the committee meeting.

Promotion entitlements will take effect 1 January 2024.
