ResearchNow Ethics & Biosafety is a flexible web-based management system to manage the submission, processing and communication of research ethics and biosafety applications. The system improves the usability of application forms and increases transparency of the review process for applicants submitting ethics and biosafety project applications.
The system also improves the review process, saving responsible officers and committees time and effort by automating the application, review and feedback processes.
It allows students, supervisors, staff members and affiliates with a Flinders Authentication Number (FAN) to track the progress of their applications as they make their way through the system from submission to approval.
There are three key application types - Animal Ethics, Human Research Ethics and Biosafety.
Current services
Animal Ethics was the first process brought into the new system in 2019 and has been successfully implemented for applicants, committees and responsible officers.
Human Research Ethics has just been completed and went live in April 2020.
Biosafety forms have been scheduled for release and use by mid-2020.
Roadmap
Q1 2020 – Human Ethics release - Complete
Q2 2020 – Biosafety release
Researchers including students who wish to undertake research involving animal subjects, must obtain ethics approval from the Flinders University Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) before commencing any research or teaching activities involving the use of animals. The term animals refers to live non-human vertebrates (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals), cephalopods such as octopus and squid, and certain groups of decapod crustaceans. This definition encompasses domestic animals, purpose-bred animals, livestock and wildlife.
Information and resources for this process is available on the animal ethics page.
