At Flinders University technology is used to enhance learning and teaching, and to support interactive and engaging learning.
FLO – short for Flinders Learning Online – is the online learning platform used by Flinders University.
Learning technology use is supported at Flinders through staff and student services that include orientation, training, learning design and just-in-time support.
The digital learning framework outlines the overall framework of necessary enablers for digital learning, including fully online learning and the use of digital learning in on campus topics and courses, in a high-quality way. The framework is designed to ensure that the systems, technology, support mechanisms are in place to both expand and improve the experience and meet all regulatory requirements.
The digital learning guidelines are designed to provide guidance on how to design FLO topic sites so students experience a level of consistency in layout and structure and good practice to support teaching and student engagement. They outline good practice for digital learning at Flinders and are to be used as a guide for teaching staff.
The FLO starter site is a semi-pre-configured ‘starting place’ and can be customised to work with the needs of a course or topic. It is designed to unify the layout and structure of topics across courses, disciplines and colleges and includes many of the components of the digital learning guidelines.
A range of tip sheets and good practice guides relating to digital learning are available.
Every topic at Flinders University has a site, hosted on Flinders Learning Online (FLO). All topics, including on campus topics, have an online space for student discussions, submitting assignments, accessing learning resources, engaging in learning activities, and checking grades.
Students enrolled in partially on campus topics will participate in online activities and access resources, including collaborating with other students, participating in synchronous sessions, sharing resources and engaging in conversations, or showcasing presentations. Students will also attend campus, either on a semi-regular basis, for an intensive or for fieldwork or placement.
Other topics are online. These topics have all activities, resources and supports accessible through FLO and are active, social learning environments. Enrolment in an online topic means that it is possible to complete all the coursework without ever attending a physical location.
Every topic at Flinders will have a unique mix of technologies and learning strategies to support teaching and learning.
The Online Learning & Teaching team lead and supports high quality digital learning; the innovative and expanded use of learning technology, learning design, eLearning support services and offers professional learning for digital learning.
