CSE Research Committee Terms of Reference
Purpose
The College Research Committee is responsible for assisting the College Executive to develop, implement and review research development and support strategies that align with the University’s strategic plan and contribute to the achievement of College and University research targets.
Terms of reference
The CSE Research Committee will advise the Vice-President and Executive Dean, the Dean (Research) and College executive on:
- setting the research strategy and priorities for the College, in alignment with the research objectives of the University;
- the development and implementation of strategies aimed at growing College research activity, quality and impact;
- facilitating achievement of the University’s strategic plan and College and University targets relating to research;
- developing the skills of college academics to gain external competitive grants and publish top 10% papers
- analysis of college level data on research outputs and provision of advice on strategies to meet on university research targets
- the provision of resources to enable academics to achieve their research objectives;
- ensuring mentoring of ECRs and emerging researchers to develop their research skills and performance
- the provision of high quality research training for students and staff and of development of high quality HDR student supervision;
- the optimal structure for research activities within the College through appropriate Research Sections, Research Themes and University Research Institutes and Centres;
- the development of research partnerships with external stakeholders including business, industry, government and non-government/community organisations;
- the identification of cross-College interdisciplinary research opportunities;
- the development of strategies for international research engagement;
- research initiatives, strategies and programs being developed by the University and external stakeholders including business, industry and government;
- strategies for research translation and commercialisation;
- any other research related matters.
The CSE Research Committee will:
- contribute to research assessment and rankings exercises to produce the best results for the College and University;
- promote and implement policies and procedures relating to research and research development;
- identify potential intellectual property developed by College research and advise an appropriate Research Development and Support Commercialisation Manager;
- establish mechanisms to support the submission of high-quality grant applications, tenders and research outputs.
Working Parties, Sub-committees
The College Research Committee may establish sub-committees or working parties, or delegate responsibilities to Committee members on any matters within its terms of reference.
Composition and membership
Members
- Dean (Research): Chairperson (ex-officio)
- Heads, College Research Sections (ex-officio)
- Heads, College Research Themes (ex-officio)
- Directors of University Research Institutes and Centres hosted by the College (ex-officio)
- College HDR Coordinator
- HDR Student representative
- ECR representative
- Other members as required to provide advice and assistance in respect of specific issues being considered or when specialist expertise is required
- Executive Officer for the College Research Committee
- DVC(R) or delegate.
Meetings, Reporting and Minutes
Frequency of Meetings: 6 times per year. Special meetings may be called by the Chair as the need arises. For all meetings, minutes shall be kept. A report or minutes of each Research Committee meeting will be included in the agenda for the College Leadership meeting.
Quorum
50% of members to the next higher whole number.
