HDR Scholarships Committee

Terms of reference

  1. The HDR Scholarships Committee is a sub-committee of the University Higher Degrees by Research Committee. On a yearly basis, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) will approve the University HDR scholarship budget for the following year.

  2. The role of the HDR Scholarships Committee is to discharge its responsibility with
    respect to the relevant Academic Senate policies for HDR students and funding allocations determined by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research).

  3. The HDR Scholarships Committee is responsible for:

    • Determining the award of HDR scholarships and the Research Preparation Scholarship for Indigenous Students.
    • Distributing such other funds for HDR student support as may be available  from time to time.
    • Adhering to standards prescribed by the Commonwealth and State Government in relation to HDR scholarships.
    • Monitoring the progress of scholarship holders and approving extensions to scholarships as appropriate, as approved by the Chair under delegated authority and in accordance with the conditions of award and Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship Administrative Rules.
    • Receiving and reviewing complaints from HDR scholarship applicants and/or holders by the Chair in accordance with the Flinders’ complaint handling process.
    • Recommending to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) changes to the conditions of award of existing scholarships and to policy relating to HDR scholarships.
    • Recommending to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) the establishment of privately funded scholarships and conditions of award.
    • Forwarding to the Chair of the University Higher Degrees by Research Committee by 30 June each year a Report on this Committee’s activities for the preceding 12 months.CRICOS No. 00114A

  4. Composition

    Members:
    Dean, Graduate Research (ex officio) (Chair)
    HDR Coordinator from each of the six Colleges (ex officio)

    In attendance:

    Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) (ex officio) or proxy
    Team Leader, Student Finance (HDR Scholarships) (ex officio) (Executive Officer)

  5. Quorum

    50% of membership (ignoring any fraction resulting from the division) plus 1.

  6. Meeting frequency

    The Committee will be convened at least 5 times per year to coincide with scholarship rounds.

Vice-Chancellor Scholarship Selection Committee

Principles of selection

  1. Recipients have the potential to make a positive contribution to Flinders University and the global community
  2. Recipients are suitable International Student Ambassadors and able to effectively represent Flinders University in the recruitment of international students globally
  3. Recipients contribute towards diversity of College, nationality and course to support Flinders University international student recruitment goals

Terms of reference

In accordance with Policy on Internal Tuition Fee Waivers, Scholarships and Sponsorships and under the approval of the Vice-President & Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), the Go Beyond Vice Chancellor Scholarship Selection Committee will foster and encourage the recruitment of high quality international students for the University by undertaking:

  • Meet as required to determine the award of the Go Beyond Vice Chancellor Scholarships
  • Monitor the progress of scholarship holders and approving extensions to scholarships as appropriate
  • Reviewing and proposing changes to the scholarship as they relate to the selection criteria and process
  • Review the impact of the Flinders International Ambassador Program, in particular the role of the Go Beyond Vice Chancellor Scholarships recipients
  • Provide reporting as required on the performance of the Go Beyond Vice Chancellor Scholarships
