The templates need to cover the establishment, change and discontinuation of courses, course specialisation, majors, minors and topics. They must cater for changes (both deliberate and consequential) to all elements within these courses and components and they must allow for a very wide range of stakeholders to provide advice and inputs. Finally, they must provide all information necessary for approving authorities to consider and decide.
After much development work, it was decided that a set of templates with each focussed on a narrow activity was preferable to a small number of templates containing many questions to cover all proposals.
Of the 46 common course and topic approval activities, 26 require the completion of only one template and another 7 require the completion of one and possibly two or more extras depending on the nature of the change. The establishment of new courses, course specialisations, majors, minors and topics require the completion of several templates, reflecting the complexity, resourcing and potential risk involved.
