We manage, protect, and enhance the public image and reputation of the University. Our team handles internal and external communications, media relations, public relations activities and external engagement ensuring that the University’s achievements and initiatives are effectively communicated.

Our team manages and facilitates the University’s engagement with government and other key stakeholders. Our role includes advocating for University priorities, building strategic partnerships with industry and external stakeholders, and ensuring the University’s contributions to the community are recognised and supported. We shape policy discussions and ensure the University’s voice is heard in government and industry forums.

Media Relations

• Media relations: We are the first point of contact for journalists seeking information or expert commentary from Flinders.  
• Media coverage: Need to promote a research project or event? We handle media outreach to spotlight Flinders’ activities and partnerships. 
• Reputation management: We safeguard the University’s reputation, handling issues and crises when needed. 
• Media training: We offer support and training to help staff and researchers engage effectively with the media.  

Corporate Communications

• Staff communications: We keep you informed about key developments and events happening across Flinders University.  
• Senior staff support: We provide communications strategy and speechwriting support to senior leadership. 
• Publications: We manage Flinders’ corporate publications, including the Annual Report. 

Property, Facilities and Development Communications and Engagement

• Campus operations and projects: We are responsible for the development and delivery of communications and engagement strategies in support of major University infrastructure strategic projects, including capital and campus development projects, sustainability and operations. 

Government and External Relations

• Accessing Flinders expertise: We provide a gateway for government and parliamentarians to the most relevant Flinders University expertise.
• Submissions and proposals: Our team leads the development of whole-of-university responses to government inquiries and policy announcements as well as proactive external advocacy and funding strategies.
• Analysis and advice: We support the University Executive and the wider Flinders University community on all matters relating to our engagement and positioning with government and policy.
• Engagement opportunities: We are here to support campus visits, events and meetings. Looking to partner with an industry group? We manage the University’s involvement with key membership organisations, including university speakers.
