Computers

Request funding for laptop or desktop computers, not covered by the Central Equipment Fund.

Covers computers for new staff and replacement computers for existing staff (conditions apply).

Requests can be submitted anytime and will be checked against eligibility criteria. If criteria met, orders are placed immediately.

A standard computer set-up comprises of a basic model PC 14” laptop (currently Dell Latitude 5440), with two 24” monitors, a thunderbolt dock, wired keyboard and mouse and ecoloop laptop bag.
*Laptops are preferred (over desktops) to accommodate flexible working arrangements. Desktops can be requested, but justification needs to be made on why a laptop is not suitable.

Continuing and fixed term staff (on 0.3FTE or above) on untied/college funding are entitled to a standard computer set up. Casual staff and staff on 0.2FTE and below are not entitled to a computer set up and it is up to their supervisor to supply access to computer equipment (if required).

Continuing and fixed term staff on tied/research funding are expected to have their computer equipment paid for from the same grant/funding that pays their salaries.
*Where a research grant specifically states that computer equipment cannot be purchased from that grant, a request can be made for untied/college funding support.

PhD and HDR students are not entitled to a computer set up. Individual students can apply for RSM funding where eligible, to support the purchase of computer equipment.

Where a request is made for a non-standard computer (including Macs), the $ difference between the standard laptop price and the model requested must be paid for from consolidated/consulting/grant funding of the individual staff member or their supervisor. If no funding is available to supplement the cost, then only a standard laptop will be supplied.

No application form required.

Staff purchasing computers on grant funding can directly place the order via Service One > Technology > Request something > Hardware. The account to be charged must be noted in the request.

Staff whose computers are eligible to be covered by college funding, must contact CMPH Operations who will arrange the appropriate approvals and place the order on the staff member’s behalf.
