Publications

Workplace support Services & topics Publications

The Office of Communication, Marketing and Engagement (OCME) is responsible for producing high quality, informative print materials that support Flinders student recruitment and research objectives. OCME works with central and college staff to ensure that our printed products are accurate, attractive, branded correctly, and timely OCME can actively assist with your publications in one of two ways:

  • help creating your own publication
  • collaborative production of publications with approved content

The term publication refers to any print material designed to promote or represent Flinders and Flinders people either internally, to students, or in the wider community.

Creating your own publication

Staff who produce communication and marketing material on a regular basis may be granted access to Outfit (subject to licenses). Outfit is a simple to use application that allows you to create your own material with approved Flinders branding, images, colours and logos.

There are also Word and PowerPoint templates, including letterhead, certificates, conference, flyers and posters,  that can be used by any staff member to create various publications for work related purposes.

Collaborative production

For assistance with in-depth and multiple page publications such as conference brochures, or high profile publications, please read our pre-production checklist prior to contacting the Marketing team to discuss lead time and planning.

Please note: we ask that general content and objectives for publications be approved through the usual pathways and also adhere to appropriate policies prior to being channelled through to OCME for support.

Pre-production checklist

In order to ease the flow of information, it’s important that written content be developed or be a fair way along the process of development prior to initial discussions with OCME about production. Please read through and make notes for discussion on the following prior to making contact.

The checklist

Objective

Where possible, this should be narrowed down to a primary objective such as “generate interest in new research program”.

Budget

Allocate funds for artwork costs as well as copy writing, printing and distribution costs.

Format

Identify format in terms of size, orientation and style is envisioned for the publication. Include pages required (note that costs increase per page).

Content

Ensure content been developed and approved according to appropriate channels and policies. Images and graphics should be appropriate for use in terms of brand, quality (resolution) and copyright.

Quantity

In some cases OCME may be able to provide a quote for the desired quantity, based on the format and size of the publication, in order to work through budget concerns.

Lead time

OCME requires minimum of 20 working days of lead time for small print projects. Larger productions may require a set schedule based on the delivery date. Conference brochures and other multiple page publications that are to be delivered on a specific date, for example, are best planned backwards from this date, preferably months in advance.

Distribution

Options may include print (e.g. hand out on location) or mail out, or multiple methods that may include the online Events Management System and email.
