Full time PhD students are eligible to a dedicated workspace and a computer located at N315, N316, FMC Level 5 and Tonsley. The funding of new or replacement computers for HDR (PhD) students is the responsibility of the principal supervisor using the allocated Research Student Maintenance (RSM) funds. College RSM allocations are as follows:
An HDR student is eligible to apply for up to $2000 per year of FTE candidature to a maximum of $6000 during the normal enrollment period (up to 3 years for PhD or part-time equivalent; 2 years for Master of Science)
Commencing higher degree by research students may elect to use the RSM for a new laptop computer for use during their candidature. This must be done in accordance with College procedures and Flinders University IDS Policy and guidelines.
A quote must be obtained and submitted with the RSM budget and application forms to the HDR coordinator. All the information is available on the CNHS HDR FLO site.
Please note this funding is subject to annual review.
In the event allocated RSM funding is insufficient to cover the cost of the required computer, then the device may be funded from other sources of funding that the supervisor is responsible for provided there are sufficient funds. Please ensure there are sufficient funds in an account prior to submitting any orders.
If you do not have sufficient funding from other sources for these devices, please contact the College Dean of People and Resources justifying the need for the device or monitor and why there is inadequate funding from other sources to cover the cost.
Visit the hardware purchasing page and use the excel quote forms in the preferred desktop and laptops section to cost enhanced requirements to the default configurations i.e. more RAM, hard drive storage. If none of the preferred computer options are suitable submit a request via the online portal for a formalised quote.
