The University will close at 1.00 pm on Friday 22 December 2023 and will reopen on Tuesday 2 January 2024.
Public holidays which will be observed during the end of year closure period (as specified under the Enterprise Agreement) are as follows:
The following days will count as annual recreation leave for all staff working until the University closure at 1.00 pm on 23 December 2023.
Academic staff - In accordance with clause 30.3.1 of the Enterprise Agreement, academic staff will have these 2 days automatically deducted from their annual recreation leave entitlement (in addition to the balance of the “block” leave booking for January 2024). There is provision for reversal of this leave in limited circumstances provided there is an operational need and where it can be justified that leave is required later in the year. In these cases, the future leave should also be booked at the time of the reversal. Reversal of this leave is not available for any staff member who has an annual leave balance in excess of 294 hours (pro rata for part time staff)..
Professional staff – All professional staff will have these 2 days of annual leave block booked by People and Culture for the University closure period noted above. Reversal of this leave is not available for any staff member who has an annual leave balance in excess of 294 hours (pro rata for part time staff).
Whilst the official closure period noted above includes 2 days of leave, the University is strongly encouraging staff to take an extended break from 18 December 2023 returning on Monday 8 January 2024, which results in 11 working days of leave but nearly 3 full weeks off with the public holidays. Those with sufficient leave are encouraged to take a longer break over this generally quieter time.
Salaries will be available to staff on the normal pay days of:
The recreation leave loading will be included in the pay of 1 December 2023.
