Dear Colleagues
I do hope that most of you have been able to enjoy a happy and peaceful holiday season. However, I also know that many colleagues have been affected by the tragic bushfires that have been sweeping through our State and the Nation.
My thoughts are with all of those already affected and also those still under threat during these difficult times and I feel certain that every member of the Flinders University community would join me in wishing you well in the weeks and months ahead.
You will all be acutely aware that many of our students will also have been affected and a separate communication will be sent to students advising that University staff will of course do their utmost to support them as they continue their studies.
I would like to remind all affected staff members that the University offers Special Leave with Pay to support staff dealing with such extreme and unforeseen circumstances. In the case of staff whose home has been lost or damaged Special Leave with Pay will be available for up to four weeks. For more details please contact your People & Culture Business Partner.
I would also like to offer my heartfelt respect and admiration to those staff members who are CFS volunteers. Your selfless courage and commitment in the face of such adversity is inspirational and your entire community is grateful for the work that you do.
The University currently provides Community Services Leave for staff engaged as CFS volunteers. Such leave is normally unpaid but, in recognition of the unprecedented scale of the current emergency, I am writing to advise that the University will provide paid Special Leave for CFS volunteers for up to four weeks; this will include re-crediting of any Annual Leave where there has been overlap. Please contact your People & Culture Business Partner for further details.
Please also remember that all staff are able to access counselling support through our Employee Assistance Program.
Keep safe!
Colin
