Solutions to support your data storage needs
Working with data demands a little thought and planning, along with the use of an appropriate solution to support your interaction and management of that data. Here we’ll share with you the solutions that are currently made available to you for data storage.
The University wants to enable its staff to access appropriate storage solutions for the activity they are undertaking. We currently have the following options available for you based on your role at the University.
All Flinders University employees can request access to the following storage solutions:
Name | Description | Allowance |
OneDrive | Microsoft’s Office 365 Storage (1) |
1 Terabyte (TB) |
Teams / SharePoint | Microsoft’s Office 365 Storage for Teams / SharePoint (1) |
25 TB per group |
S-Drive | Flinders University managed on-site Enterprise Storage |
No allowance, on request |
In addition to the storage solutions available to all staff, researchers have access to additional data storage options.
(1) Microsoft offer this as a high availability solution, where versioning as opposed to backup, is provided as part of this solution. For further information: Data Resiliency in Microsoft 365 and How OneDrive versioning works.
(2) For new requests please use this form. Requests may require an approval from your college’s Dean of Research. Please check with your Dean of Research for the available storage for your college.
(3) Where storage is used for a grant-funded activity, please check the terms of your funding agreement to ensure your backup and retention obligations are fulfilled by the storage solution chosen.
The amount of data being created at the University continues to grow and needs to be managed effectively to meet the needs of both our community and compliance / regulations of our projects. The University is currently identifying secure, scalable solutions to assist with these needs of our community.
