EndNote is a bibliographic database and reference management application.
You can use EndNote to:
Flinders University has a site licence agreement to use EndNote on all university computers and personal computers.
Staff - EndNote can be installed via the "IDS Support Portal" icon on your desktop then "Install software". Search for EndNote in the list of software
Student – Endnote is installed on all student lab computers. Click Windows icon then search for Endnote in list.
EndNote is available for installation on a single computer owned by:
The right to use EndNote at home ceases immediately upon termination of employment at Flinders University or the cessation of enrolment by a student. A condition of the licence is that the software must be completely removed from your computer should your formal association with Flinders end.
Some customers with M1 machines have reported an error message stating that Word can't load an add-in. The workaround for this is to set Word to open with Rosetta. Refer to the Clarivate support page.
Endnote has 500 styles available within the program and over 7000 styles available on their website but sometimes you need to install a dedicated style. At Flinders we use other style that are designed for University use. These are:
The above styles have already been installed on all University computers but will need to be added to personal computers. The below instructions can be used for adding any new styles to your computer.

Adding the style to Endnote
That’s it! When you use EndNote now, this will be the style that is used to format your citations and bibliography. Also remember to choose it in Word as your reference type using the same method outlined above.
Adding AGLC 4th Reference type table (required only if using AGLC style)
1. Download the Legal Reference Types:
2. Install the Legal Reference Types Table in EndNote:

If you are having problems inserting references using Endnote with a Mac please view How to change the default Mac App for Endnote File types for instructions.
There are two ways you can get references from Findit@Flinders search results through to your EndNote Library
Before using Google Scholar with EndNote, you first need to tell Google what format to export citations in.
For best results, sign into your Google account first.
3. You will now get an import into EndNote option at the bottom of all references. Click it to download a file to then import the reference into EndNote.
4. Once downloaded double click the file to open directly in Endnote.
If you are using a MAC refer to How to change the default Mac App for Endnote File types.
You can supplement your EndNote Library by attaching full-text PDFs to your references.
Copyright principles apply to any PDF saved to your Endnote Library. For more information, see the copyright section.
There are several different methods of attaching full-text PDFs.
Step 1: Configure EndNote to find full-text articles
In most instances, EndNote is able to automatically find and attach PDFs of articles held by Flinders University Library. For this to work, you must first configure EndNote to connect with FindIt@Flinders.
Within EndNote, click on the Edit menu (if using a PC) or the EndNote menu (if using a Mac)
Note: You can set EndNote to automatically find full text for all imported references by checking the box below the URLs.
Step 2: Select references to find full-text
Users should be aware of and adhere to copyright exceptions and database licence terms and conditions relating to full-text material that is added to an EndNote library.
The Fair Dealing for Research or Study exception contained in the Copyright Act allows you to copy limited amounts of copyright material for the purposes of research or study. For information about what copyright limits apply, refer to ‘What is Fair Dealing’
If you wish to share your EndNote library, only share the reference list – not the full text material attached to the library. Doing so may breach Australian copyright law or Flinders University licence agreements.
When you leave Flinders University you must delete all full-text licensed content from your EndNote library.
Staff/ HDR students: EndNote training sessions are provided by the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching. View session times.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students: The Library runs regular EndNote sessions. For more information visit the Library workshop page.
Online training is available via Clarivate Analytics YouTube page. These videos cover how-to, importing references, cite while you write and many others.
