This year, we’re commencing an exciting project to update our Campus Master Plan for Bedford Park. Our new Master Plan will guide, inform and prioritise our physical infrastructure investments and decisions to ensure our campus continues to support Flinders University’s strategic objectives now and into the future.
Our aim is to create a uniquely Flinders Master Plan that underpins our mission to change lives and change the world – integrating and building on the legacy of our past, and in turn inspiring our future.
With approximately $1b worth of physical assets, we are creating a planning framework for our developments, buildings, spaces, landscapes, and consolidating our approach to transport, parking, utilities and infrastructure.
In Flinders University’s history, we’ve undertaken one other Master Planning project in 1992. Since then, there have been significant and rapid advances across the tertiary education sector, learning and teaching, technology, sustainability, research, student and staff expectations and much more.
Helping Flinders to fully leverage and maximise future opportunities in research and education, the Master Plan will be a blueprint for the physical development of Bedford Park, helping to create an outstanding campus experience for our students, staff and visitors.
To achieve this, we’ll be engaging with our students and staff, the Flinders community, and our stakeholders over the course of the project. Details about how you can get involved, indicative timeframes and more information is available below.
We’re thrilled to be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project and invite you to join us as we develop the new Flinders University Master Plan.
To help inform a comprehensive brief to engage a Master Planning consultancy, we’ve undertaken early engagement with the following key groups. This has helped us to better understand the expectations, opportunities and limitations associated with the Master Plan and provide a robust and comprehensive brief.

A Master Plan will help to underpin our strategic objectives and create world class campus experiences for our students and staff.
Flinders University opened in 1966 and since then, only one Master Plan has been created in 1992. Since then, the old plan has become outdated. We need a new Master Plan that can support Flinders to deliver its vision, mission and ongoing future success.
Importantly, as we’re custodians of $1b of assets we need to ensure our campuses are fit for the future and our capital investments are prudent and well informed.
In addition to our 2025 Agenda, the Master Plan will be informed by a range University initiatives and strategies, including:
The Master Plan will also consider external influences such as:
Our Master Plan will focus on Bedford Park (including Sturt), however many of the guiding principles and elements will flow across our other sites.
Everyone! We’ll be providing engagement opportunities and welcome input from all students and staff to have their say, and our industry partners, alumni, key stakeholders from business and government and our local community – anyone who has an interest in Flinders University’s future.
All assets age and require ongoing maintenance, renewal or replacement. Separately, we’re conducting a Building Audit, so all of this information will be captured in one place and can be considered holistically as part of the Plan.
